On Monday, November 21st, the St. HOPE Family gathered together for a morning of service at the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services where the team aided in a successful turkey distribution that provided over 4,000 turkeys to needy families in the Oak Park and Sacramento community.
The Lady Dragons Basketball team will be competing at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Arizona during a five day period from December 18th through the 22nd. The TOC is considered one of the most prestigious high school basketball events in the country. Since 1997 it has hosted more than 20,000 athletes from across the country, including Canada. The event serves as a platform showcasing top pedigree competition, many of whom continue their careers in college and at the professional level. This will be the ninth year of participation for the Lady Dragons.
Edible Sac High is excited to welcome new Director, Karen Henderson to the St. HOPE Family. Karen, a successful businesswoman and star of Cupcake Wars, started off with a bang in her first week teaching cooking club scholars to bake red velvet cupcakes. The lesson was a hit and it’s safe to say that everyone is excited about what’s in store for 2017.
This past Thursday, December 8th, the Sacramento City Unified School District board of trustees voted 6-1 to renew the charters for PS7 and Sac High for five more years, through June 30th, 2022. This is a big win for St. HOPE and for the students and families we serve as it permits our schools to continue to deliver a high-quality, public, free college prep option for students and families. The St. HOPE team would like to give a big thank you to all the students, families and staff who attended the hearing (on Nov. 17th) and/or the vote this past Thursday.
It’s that classic time of year again! December is home to the St. HOPE Classic basketball tournament. Officially known at the St. HOPE Elite Hoops Classic, this year’s tournament will feature 32 of the top teams from the area, Southern California and from as far away as Utah, Wisconsin and Texas. This year’s tournament runs from December 26-30 and games will be played at Sac High, Hiram Johnson and Capital Christian. See here for more information.
