Dr. Bennet Omalu: The Man The NFL Couldn’t Silence
2016 Speaker Series
There is only one person, known to man, with enough courage and grit to go up against one of the largest corporations – so large they own a day of the week- in the world, and have the audacity to win. That man, is Dr. Bennet Omalu, Nigerian-American forensic pahtologist and nueropathologist. The NFL wasn’t ready for Omalu’s message, nor the the public sentiment that followed.
“When you do something in truth, out of love, you step into the light!” – Dr. Benne Omalu
If you had a chance to watch “Concussion” over the Christmas holiday, you may already know the reason Dr. Bennet Omalu set his sights on the NFL. However, for those of you who missed this box office hit, featuring world renowned actor Will Smith, Omalu was the first to link chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) to American football players – a reality the NFL was not ready to face. His battle against the NFL set the stage and began Omalu’s journey to raise public awareness about the dangers of football-related head trauma! Join the Sacramento community as we welcome Dr. Omalu to Indivizible, and watch as he sits down with Mayor Kevin Johnson, detailing what it takes to allow the truth to always lead your steps, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds!
