The Underground Books and St. HOPE family are greatly saddened to have lost our beloved Mother Rose on December 23rd.

For the last twenty years, Mother Rose operated Underground Books with an infectious smile and uplifting spirit bringing joy to all who visited.

What will my donation support?

Donations made to the Mother Rose Fund at St. HOPE will be used to support three initiatives:

 

1)   The Mother Rose Prize for Excellence in African American Literature- Awards will be given to African American authors in the categories of: children’s, fiction and nonfiction for original works.  

2)     Black Bookstore Heritage Grants- Grants will be awarded to Black bookstore owners to start, grow or renovate their businesses.

3)      Mother Rose’s Community Trust-  The Trust will provide books to underprivileged youth, scholarships to students, and flowers to senior citizens.
