1st Annual St. HOPE Public Health Fair!
By Katherine Jung - Student Services Coordinator
Since our scholars must be holistically healthy to achieve their optimal academic potential, we launched St. HOPE’s first Public Health Fair to provide resources that could benefit our students and their families’ psychological, physical, nutritional, medical, and emotional health and well-being.
On March 14th, from 5pm to 7pm, this event came to life with over 20 community organizations in attendance. Among some of those present were La Familia Counseling Center, Improve Your Tomorrow, Black Youth Leadership Project, Fleet Feet, Free Yoga of Sacramento, One Community Health, WellSpace Health, Sacramento Native American Health Center, Elica Health Centers, YMCA, City of Sacramento, Sacramento Aquatic Center, WEAVE, Wind Youth Services, Sacramento’s Black Nurses Association, Planet Fitness, NAMI of Sacramento, Project ADAM at UC Davis, HOPE Counseling Center, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Essential Wellness, Omni Youth Programs, Sacramento Peers on Prevention, and Capital Therapy Dogs.
In an environment filled with positivity and hope, St. HOPERS and their families were able to play with therapy dogs, learn how to administer CPR, sample healthy foods, have their blood pressure taken, shoot hoops with some of our teachers and staff, enter our raffle, and even receive free dental examinations. This event not only demonstrated the importance of connecting our students and families to community resources to ensure the continued success of our students, but also showed that learning about them can be a fun experience for everyone!
