Giving Thanks in Oak Park

Pipeline Newsletter

On the Monday before Thanksgiving, several St. HOPE teachers, staff, students and parents joined countless volunteers at the Sacramento Food Bank to help distribute turkeys and all the fixings to those in need. Thousands of people lined the streets of Oak Park to be one of many to receive the donation given in a nifty Sacramento Food Bank bag.

Although the morning temperatures started off brisk in the mid-30’s, the energy was high and there were no complaints knowing many of those in line had arrived hours earlier. We quickly organized to fill each bag with a frozen turkey along with boxed extras to make a delicious meal for an entire family. Volunteers were then assigned to stations that included distribution, line management and general assistance. “Recipients are always so cheerful and express sincere gratitude to the volunteers, which makes the experience that much more rewarding,” said Adrianne Hall, St. HOPE Programs and Operations Director.

This is the third year St. HOPE has volunteered for the annual event, and we look forward to joining our Oak Park neighbors for many years to come!
