Increasing Access to College
Sac High Seniors recently participated in the annual Cash for College workshop to apply for Federal grants and loans to pay for college. During the Cash For College event hosted by Sac High, advisors assisted students with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act (CADAA), unlocking financial resources and making their dreams to attend college become a reality.
Additionally, seniors have been attending virtual and in-person college presentations and visits from various colleges including UC Davis, UCLA, USC and Cal Poly. They have also participated in the annual HBCU (Historically Black College and University) College Fair and are looking forward to the upcoming HBCU Roundup to connect with current HBCU students.
As part of the mission to graduate self-motivated, industrious and critical thinking leaders who are… prepared to earn a degree from a four-year college, St. HOPE Public Schools is dedicated toward ensuring all students are presented with a wealth of opportunities to attend college after graduation despite financial inequities. The results from these opportunities are evident by the 95% of seniors accepted to a 4-Year Anniversary, and recently recognized by the Sacramento Bee as being among the top Sacramento-area schools with the best UC admission rates.
St. HOPE is proud to partner with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the California Student Aid Commission and other community partners with a Cash For College Virtual Workshop on December 7 from 5-7:30 PM to ensure that all students in our community have access to financial aid and assistance in being successful through the process. The workshop is for students, parents, teachers advisors and all who support student success. Too many of our Black and Latinx students do not enter or are unable to complete college because of the lack of financial resources. St. HOPE is committed to all students having access to higher education.
