Celebrating a Woman Change Maker
President's Message - 3.26.24
We are thrilled that this week our scholars and staff are moving into the first five of the new classrooms at PS7 Elementary. This $35 million construction project will completely transform our Strawberry Lane campus and we can’t wait to have a completely modernized campus for our elementary school scholars.
As we close out Women’s History Month, I want to recognize Georgia “Mother Rose” West, who manages Underground Books located in the 40 Acres complex. Mother Rose is a well-known pillar in the Oak Park community helping our region thrive by ensuring cultural diversity. After the only library in Oak Park closed in the 1970’s, St. HOPE has been committed to ensuring that the community has easy access to books. Known as the “literary hub of Oak Park”, Underground Books provides programs and learning opportunities for the community and contributes toward ensuring all children have the same access to education and knowledge.
We hope you can join us for some of the great events at Underground Books, including the next Let’s Read Oak Park where young children can participate in interactive book readings and hands-on activities with an emphasis on cultural themes.
In community,
Cassandra H.B. Jennings
President and CEO
